Thoughtful dog walking

Small, carefully balanced walks that give dogs more out of the outing.

Where it is safe and right, dogs can have off-lead time, routes are mixed up to keep walks interesting, and every setup is chosen with calm handling in mind.

Who this suits best

This is for owners who want a calmer walking routine, not just a standard group walk.

The aim is not to pack as many dogs as possible into a walk and hope for the best.

Jennie does not oversubscribe dogs. If more than one dog is walked together, they are usually from the same household or very carefully balanced by temperament and behaviour so the walk stays calm and the dogs get more out of it.

Separate from regular dog walking, Jennie may also team up with another trusted dog walker for carefully balanced social group walks near Cherry Orchard in the Southend area. Those larger setups are only for suitable dogs and puppies, and they are introduced carefully rather than treated as a normal group walk.

Jennie also looks at what your dog actually finds manageable, which routes help them cope, and whether the walking routine is supporting calmer behaviour or accidentally making things harder.

I highly recommend Jennie's Positive Paws. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable about dogs and their behaviours she is so also kind and genuinely cares about the dogs she looks after.

Our dog is poorly and cannot manage a second walk with Jennie now, so instead she comes to our home and gives him cuddles and companionship whilst we are at work. She always sends us an update with lots of photos so we have peace of mind as well.

"Our dog was very responsive and walking properly on a lead started to improve."

Jennie came to see me and my wife at home to help with our new rescue border collie who has a number of issues. She was very thorough in her advice and clearly knew her stuff as our dog was very responsive. We went for a walk and she made various suggestions which seem to be working as regards walking properly on a lead. Followed up with a very helpful email. Would thoroughly recommend.

If you're hesitant, I would 100% recommend Jennie. After the first home lesson with Jennie we noted a vast improvement in our behaviour, so the dog has followed suit. Jennie has already helped us understand what makes our dog react and life on our walks has drastically improved. Looking forward to the next training session.

"She built trust between my pup and me by using a lunge lead and recall tips."

I came to Jennie with mainly reactive behaviour around other dogs and selective listening. On the second meet up, after putting things into practice in the meantime, she solidified our original training and also built some trust between my pup and me by using a lunge lead and recall tips.

Since then I have taken him to meet several dogs and even to another dog's house for a complete off lead play date and it went absolutely brilliantly.

Why owners trust this service

Behaviour-aware handling matters when a walking routine needs to support calmer everyday life.

Behaviour-aware handling

This is not a rushed, one-size-fits-all walk. Jennie works from a behaviour background, so body language, arousal, space, and trigger stacking are part of how walks are planned and handled.

DBS checked and insured

Owners need to feel safe handing over their dog, home access, and routine. Jennie is DBS checked and insured, so the practical side of dog walking feels as reliable as the handling itself.

Collection and routine

Dog van collection is available for suitable bookings, and walks are planned around what your dog can cope with best, whether that means quieter routes, shorter transitions, or a steadier routine.

How Dog Walking Works

A calmer service for dogs who need more than just exercise.

Before a regular walking routine starts, Jennie looks at what your dog finds easy, what they find hard, and what sort of handling helps them feel more settled. That way the walk supports your dog rather than simply filling the time.

For some dogs that means quieter routes and more space. For others it means slower transitions, a familiar routine, or walking support that sits alongside behaviour work already in place.

What to expect

  • An initial conversation about your dog's needs, routine, and handling
  • Clear discussion around collection, keys, timing, and suitability
  • Walks chosen around welfare, safety, and the type of support your dog needs
  • Off-lead time where appropriate, safe, and genuinely helpful for your dog
  • Routes mixed up across the week so walks stay interesting and mentally stimulating
  • Updates that help you understand how your dog is coping and progressing

Dog Walking FAQs

Who is behaviour-aware dog walking best for?

This service is best for dogs who need calmer handling, more thoughtful route choices, and someone who understands arousal, stress signals, and space rather than simply offering a standard group walk.

What is behaviour-led dog walking?

Behaviour-led dog walking means the walk is planned around the individual dog's emotional state, confidence, triggers, and coping level, not just how far or fast they can walk.

How do enrichment walks help dogs?

Enrichment dog walks give dogs time to sniff, explore, think, and decompress. This can be especially helpful for dogs who become worried, frustrated, or overexcited on busy walks.

Do you offer dog van collection?

Yes, dog van collection is available for suitable bookings. If that is important for your routine, it is best to mention it when you enquire so Jennie can confirm whether it fits your location and your dog's needs.

Can dog walking sit alongside training support?

Yes. Some owners combine behaviour-aware walking with puppy training, behaviour consultations, or assisted lead walks so their dog gets more consistent support across the week.

Where do you offer dog walking?

Dog walking is offered in South Woodham Ferrers and the immediate nearby local area only. If you are further out, Jennie can still help through puppy training, behaviour support, assisted lead walks, or online consultations depending on what you need.

Are you DBS checked and insured?

Yes. Jennie is DBS checked and insured, which matters when you are trusting somebody with your dog, your home access, and part of your weekly routine.

Do you walk dogs in groups?

Jennie does not oversubscribe dogs. If more than one dog is walked together, they are usually from the same household or carefully matched by behaviour and temperament so the walk stays balanced and useful for every dog involved.

Do dogs get off-lead time and different routes?

Where it is safe, appropriate, and right for the dog, Jennie will use off-lead time so the walk feels more natural and rewarding. Routes are also mixed up where possible, so dogs are not doing the exact same walk every time and get more stimulation from the outing.

Can dog walking help if my dog gets worried or overexcited outside?

Yes, provided the service is the right fit for your dog's needs. Jennie's behaviour background means walks can be handled more thoughtfully, and if your dog needs deeper support, the walking service can sit alongside behaviour training rather than replace it.

How do I know if my dog is suitable for this service?

The best way is to get in touch and explain your dog's routine, behaviour, and what you need help with. Jennie can then tell you whether behaviour-aware walking is the right route or whether a consultation should come first.

Can I book this if I searched for a dog walker near me in South Woodham Ferrers?

Yes. This page is the local dog walking service for South Woodham Ferrers. If you are nearby and want a calmer, behaviour-aware walking option rather than a generic walk, get in touch and Jennie can confirm fit and availability.
