Assisted lead walks are one-to-one dog walking support where Jennie joins you and your dog on a real walk and coaches you as things happen. They are designed for dogs who pull on the lead, bark, lunge, stop and start, rush ahead, or make walks feel stressful.
Instead of only talking through the problem indoors, Jennie helps with timing, lead handling, reward placement, distance from triggers, route choice, and calmer walking patterns in the moment.
They are especially useful when your dog’s behaviour changes once you leave the house and you need practical help on real routes, not generic advice.
This is a good fit if your dog pulls on the lead, barks or lunges at other dogs, rushes through walks, stops and refuses to move, or makes you feel tense before you even leave the house.
It is especially useful if you have already read lots of loose lead walking advice online but still feel unsure what to do when your dog is actually outside and reacting to real-life triggers.
If that sounds like your walks, tell Jennie about your dog and she can point you to the right starting option below.
Walks should be one of the enjoyable parts of owning a dog, not the part that leaves both of you stressed before you have even reached the end of the road. If walking your dog has started to feel hard, Jennie can help you slow the picture down and make it feel more manageable again.
Jennie can meet you on a walk and coach you in real time, or start with a short behaviour consult first if leaving the house already feels too big. The aim is to help you understand what your dog needs on the walk, what to change first, and how to make future walks feel calmer for both of you.
Support starts with a Basic Assisted Lead Walk at £60, with a home-plus-walk assessment at £120 and a two-visit Premium Behaviour Package at £169 if you need more depth.
Recommended starting point: For most lead-reactive, over-aroused, or stop-start walk cases, the Behaviour Lead Assessment gives Jennie the clearest first picture because it starts at home and then moves into the walk itself.
If you are not sure which route fits best, Jennie can help you choose the right starting point before you book.
If walks are messy, stressful, or unpredictable, you may not know whether to start with a Basic Assisted Lead Walk, a Behaviour Lead Assessment, or wider behaviour support.
Tell Jennie what happens before and during the walk, and she can point you towards the route that gives the clearest first step.
Timing, route choice, lead handling, reward placement, and distance all look different once you are actually out with your dog.
Assisted lead walks let Jennie coach those pieces in real time, which is often where owners start to feel genuine relief.
That makes this especially useful for dogs who are not just pulling, but also getting stuck, over-aroused, noisy, or harder to guide once the walk gets going.
Help for pulling, rushing, zig-zagging, stop-start walks, and learning how to make the lead feel calmer and easier to manage.
Practical coaching for barking, lunging, trigger awareness, distance, timing, and rewarding the right choices when walks feel too big.
Support so you understand what to do in the moment and can stop every walk feeling like a test you might fail.
Real-time coaching helps with timing, distance, movement, and how to support your dog before the walk escalates.
Whether it is pulling, stopping, reacting, or losing focus, Jennie coaches you through it on the route where it is actually happening.
Assisted walks are useful when behaviour changes as soon as you step outside. Rather than only talking about the problem indoors, Jennie works through the walk with you so you can practise timing, movement, rewards, and setup while it is actually happening.
A lot of walk problems start before the lead even goes on: at the front door, with the harness, or in those first over-excited minutes. That is why the Behaviour Lead Assessment is a hybrid session, with the first 30 minutes as a behaviour consult at home so Jennie can help you prepare for the walk before you step outside, then coach you through the walk itself. That often gives owners more clarity and makes the outdoor work feel less pressured.
If you want help deciding, the easiest thing is to get in touch and Jennie can point you to the right route.
If walks are part of a bigger behaviour picture, start with a consultation and then add assisted walk sessions once the plan is clearer.

“I booked a dog walk training opportunity to work through an issue I had, loads of advice and support.”
assisted lead walk, first time dog owners
Can’t thank Jennie enough. As first time dog owners she reassured us we were doing lots of things right and gave tips on our puppy’s behaviour. I also booked a dog walk training session to work through an issue I had, and got loads of advice and support. I now feel more confident and my puppy and I are enjoying our relaxed walks. Would recommend to anyone who is struggling!
“Our dog was very responsive and walking properly on a lead started to improve.”
rescue Border Collie and lead walking
Jennie came to see me and my wife at home to help with our new rescue border collie who has a number of issues. She was very thorough in her advice and clearly knew her stuff as our dog was very responsive. We went for a walk and she made various suggestions which seem to be working as regards walking properly on a lead. Followed up with a very helpful email. Would thoroughly recommend.
“Managed to get my very difficult puppy walking on a lead on first attempt.”
difficult puppy lead walking
Really lovely girl who knew her stuff. Managed to get my very difficult puppy walking on a lead on first attempt. Definitely recommend.
“Life on our walks has drastically improved.”
understanding reactivity on walks
If you’re hesitant, I would 100% recommend Jennie. After the first home lesson with Jennie we noted a vast improvement in our behaviour, so the dog has followed suit. Jennie has already helped us understand what makes our dog react and life on our walks has drastically improved. Looking forward to the next training session.
“She built trust between my pup and me by using a lunge lead and recall tips.”
lunge line, recall, and calmer dog interactions
I came to Jennie with mainly reactive behaviour around other dogs and selective listening. On the second meet up, after putting things into practice in the meantime, she solidified our original training and also built some trust between my pup and me by using a lunge lead and recall tips. Since then I have taken him to meet several dogs and even to another dog’s house for a complete off lead play date and it went absolutely brilliantly.
Yes, they can be a strong fit when barking, lunging, pulling, or big feelings are showing up most clearly on walks. Jennie helps you work through the setup in real time so you can practise calmer handling and clearer choices outside.
Not always. Some owners book assisted walks as a focused stand-alone service, while others start with a short prep consult or add walk support after a behaviour consultation when the main struggle is happening out on walks.
The Basic Assisted Lead Walk is 60 minutes. The Behaviour Lead Assessment is around 90 minutes because it starts with a 30-minute behaviour consult at home before moving into the walk, and the Premium Behaviour Package includes that assessment plus an extra 60-minute assisted walk on another day.
You can book a Basic Assisted Lead Walk (£60) for a structured 60-minute walk, a Behaviour Lead Assessment (£120) for home-plus-walk support with follow-up notes, or the Premium Behaviour Package (£169) if you want the assessment and a second assisted walk to practise on a different day and route.
Yes. Some dogs and owners do well with one focused reset, while others benefit from follow-on sessions so the walking plan can build up more steadily over time.
Assisted lead walks are offered in South Woodham Ferrers and across Jennie's Essex service area, including local support around Chelmsford, Maldon, and nearby towns where the walk setup is a good fit.
Jennie works with you and your dog in real time, helping with movement, timing, reward placement, distance, and how to handle the moments that usually go wrong. You are not just being told what to do later, you are practising it together there and then.

Absolutely. One of the biggest benefits of assisted walks is building owner confidence. If you dread the walk or feel unsure what to do when things escalate, this service can help you feel steadier and more prepared.
Yes. That is exactly why the Behaviour Lead Assessment is a hybrid session that starts with a 30-minute behaviour consult at home before moving outside. If the front door, harness, hallway, or first few minutes are part of the struggle, Jennie helps you prepare for the walk properly rather than only focusing once you are already on the route.
No. Assisted lead walks are coaching sessions with you and your dog, designed to improve handling, walk setup, and behaviour on the lead. If you need an ongoing walking routine as well, Jennie also offers behaviour-aware dog walking as a separate service.
Yes. Assisted lead walks are a strong fit for reactive dogs who bark, lunge, freeze, or become overwhelmed around other dogs, people, or traffic. Jennie coaches distance, timing, and calmer handling on real routes across her Essex service area.
It can include lead walking training, but it goes further than a standard lesson because Jennie works with you during a real walk. That means you practise the changes while your dog is actually outside and dealing with normal distractions, rather than just in a training hall or garden.
Yes. Jennie is based in South Woodham Ferrers and offers assisted lead walks across Chelmsford, Maldon, and nearby Essex towns where the walk setup is suitable, including help for dogs who pull, rush, or struggle to settle on local routes.
